The Marinduque Tourism Council (MTC) was created in pursuant to Republic Act No. 9563 otherwise known as the Tourism Act of 2009 and considered as the Omnibus Tourism Code, recognizing the important role of tourism in the country’s socio-economic growth and cultural affirmation. The organization is also supported by the mandate of Republic Act No. 7160 also known as the Local Government Code of 1991 that directs local government units (LGUs) to prepare, adopt, implement, and monitor their tourism programs and projects.
On August 5, 2020, Gov. Presbitero J. Velasco, Jr. constituted the Provincial Tourism Development Council for Marinduque through Executive Order No. 36 series of 2020 acknowledging tourism as a prime mover of the province’s economy.
Meanwhile, on September 17, 2025, Gov. Melecio Go convened a meeting for the reconstitution and reorganization of the Marinduque Tourism Council, during which the newly elected officers were proclaimed.
MTC is sought to be an instrument for inter-government coordination, communication, and cooperation on tourism-related issues. Thus, promoting harmonious relationship between and among LGUs, national government instrumentalities, private sector, and the civil society organizations.
